High Beam Headlights

I just replaced my low beams with different casings, and brighter bulbs. I'd like to replace the high beams so they match, but I was unsure of the differences. The new casings are interchangeable, but what about the bulbs? Do I need to buy different bulbs for the high beams, or is the only difference between the low and high beams how they are adjusted?
My car is a 1989 xj40
