I know it's just terminology, but over the years I've heard guys say this many times, even some racing folks. I just read an article from a supposedly high tech outfit, who stated that to get more speed out of a car and not increasing the engine RPMs, you need to install a High Ratio Rear. High ratios are for power, low ratios are for speed. Of course you must have the power along with it. I think the problem is their confusing High Speed with High Ratio. Ratio means just that! How many times it takes the pinion to turn to make the ring gear turn one time. Some ratios are more complex. The smaller the ring gear, the lower the ratio, the less turns on the pinion to make the ring gear,(axle), turn once. When we were racing, many years ago, we ran Winters quick change rears and small tracks took the high ratio gear sets, larger tracks took lower ratio gear sets. Just making a point. Oh well, at least I can convince myself I know what I'm talking about.

When I hear that I always think, Oh God, and walk away.
