Anybody have photos of a good example of a single SU HIF6 mounted on a 1275cc engine? I'm confused about a couple of things.
 
The pictures I have seen have all been for Minis. I'm providing a series of links below to old threads on anothr board which include pictures of HIF carbs on various manifolds. If you don't see what you need in those threads please ask specific questions and I'll see if I can't find more specific pictures... or request them on the other board.

Is there a particular aspect you would like to see?

Mine is mounted on a 1380, however. :wink:

My setup is very much like David's except that I have the mirror image carb. Need close up of choke and throttle cable connections. Also need to be sure which rubber lines go where.
 
By mirror image, do you mean the other half of a matched pair? The one David shows is also the configuration you'll see in the links I posted. That's equivalent to the "rear" carb if this were on an MGB as a part of a pair. I don't know that I've ever seen the "front" carb used as a single but certainly it would be possible.

Ray, your pictures do make that look like a "front" carb. However, it may not be as the choke shaft does not have a "socket" (like the throttle does) for the type of linkage normally used on duals.

You may have to get creative with your cable routing. If Hap doesn't reply to this thread on his own, you may want to send him a PM with your questions. I'll bet he's put HIF6/44s on A-series before.
 
I spent lots of time this morning researching HIF6 carbs on Google. Lots of different configurations depending on the intended use. Mine is definitely a front carb.

In my first photo I believe the upper left pipe is the same as David's #6. I believe that I need to connect that to the crankcase breather. The lower left pipe is the same as David's #5 (float vent). The lower right pipe is then for the fuel line.

Does that make sense?

The engine and carb setup came out of my original Whitephrog. I bought that BE from a guy that restore lot's of Morris Minors. I'm not sure of his engine and carb source.

I would appreciate photos of proper choke and throttle cable connections.
 
The photo David posted was from the Mini Forum web site. David probably can post more detailed pictures of his particular install. Port 6 shown above should be the crankcase vent connection. However, this is usually through a PCV valve (Smiths or otherwise). However, I suppose the use of a restrict or in the hose may also suffice. I would anticipate that running a regular hose straight from the valve cover to the carb may allow too much air and create a lean mixture. I'm sure David can advise you better than I.

You said the carb setup you have came off the your original Whitefrog. Is that the one that had the accident damage? Do you have any engine/carb photographs of that installation?

You've got the cable bracket shown in the second carb picture. I would assume you merely route the throttle cable down, around the throttle cam, then back to a cable anchor which passes through the bottom hole in the throttle cam. The choke looks like it uses the brass guide tube on the carb body which directs the cable down to the bottom hole of the choke cam.

Here are a few closeups of my set up.
Capped PVC port. Float vent just goes to a
hose to just below chassis.
The top port goes to my Aldon distr.
The linkage bracket isn't stock. I'm using a stub stack on the carb too.
I will point out that my valve cover is a vented, the crank is vented from where the fuel pump used to be, and it has the canister on the front of the cover. Lettin' that sucker blow!
Pretty simple. Runs great.

Good to know, I need some high quality shots of my BGT with it's new wheels for the VTO website, I fiquire when spring comes out and everything is blosseming real nice up in the mountains. Hey sounds like a good excuse for a mountain ride to me :smile:
