MGB HIF44 carb

What part of your 175 is worn out? I suppose the throtte shaft is your concern. If this is so Moss Motors offers new replacement seals. I can't see anything else that can be worn out. most of the rest gets little weare.

I have had my 175 apart many times it is not too complex. But if you disturb the needle or the needle adjustment it will require readjustment on an exhaust analizer, and correct assembly and adjustment of the cold start mechanism

Doc,
what did you use for the shroud to radiator gap filler? It looks much better than the foam!

That's an old lower windscreen gasket. Cut to length and glued in place with contact adhesive.

I know I am reviving a zombie thread. But I was in elementary school and didn't own a MGB when it began.

A PO of my 1979 replaced the ZS 175 with a HIF 44.

More importantly he replaced the "Rube Goldberg / Corn Maze" combination intake and exhaust manifold and cat with an aftermarket intake manifold and a 1972-74.5 exhaust manifold. I thoroughly cleaned the HIF 44 after purchasing it -- because it had sat unused for many years -- and replaced the gaskets and o-rings... Cleaned the pump ... Replaced the hoses ... Steam cleaned the tank and lines ... It runs great and I'm going to compare its characteristics over time to my 1977 which has dual HIF 4s.

I'm not sure I wouldn't have just rebuilt the ZS... From what this novice can see and read about the single carb set up I'm guessing that the horrible geometry of the stock intake and exhaust manifolds and the restrictive nature of the stock exhaust has far more to do with the performance issues experienced than which carburetor was used.

Gee, maybe I'll have to buy a GT with a ZS 175, swap out the manifolds and compare it ... Just to get good data ... Ya' know.
