I posted my intro and also wanted to say hi in here as well. My next topic will be my brake project details.

Rachael

Hey neighbor!

Welcome.

I think a '66 should have a 1098 engine (not a 948).

Is the chassis number on the front frame rail (below the air cleaners) missing?

Good to have another Street/Hot Rod Fan amongst the Spridget people (I grew up with street rods and muscle cars in my dad's shop).

Welcome

Welcome! Whereabouts in Cincinnati?

Welcome!...bring on the brake questions and we'll do our best.

Rachel,

Welcome, as the owner of a another '68 Sprite greetings from Dayton. Lot's of folks who can help out that aren't too far away from you and yes we can help with brakes. Been there and done it.

Welcome! This is a great forum. I mostly lurk whilst soaking up knowledge, but I'll help if I can!

Oh, and pics please!

I am in Anderson which is on the east side of Cincinnati.
I didn't realize there were this many British car lovers this close to me /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

In regards to the engine, that is the wierd thing, the engine should be in an older model car as my car should be a 66 (roll up windows, front disc brakes) as it is the 948.

But I can't find the VIN tag (I can see the two holes were the screws were though)and that bothers me.

I have found three numbers so far, they are.....

On the Radiator #ARA 925165

On the Inner Door Jamb #ABL 048587

The Engine # is 9CG DA H358 98

I wish I had the VIN or the chassis number, I did read in an earlier post that I prob. was looking for the chassis numbner in the VIN location. So I am going to go home tonite and see if I can find it again.

It sucks because when I order parts I don't know what year for sure I have, a 66 with the older smaller engine? That's wierd!

I will attach the link to the ebay listing for my little car, hopefully I did not do too bad on the price??

Welcome to the forum! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif That's very nice! Looks like a good buy! Odd about the engine size though! One of our historians (or numbers specialists) should be able to figure it out! I have been hearing of a spot somewhere in the front suspension that is supposed to have the VIN number stamped into it, but I have never found it myself!

Rachel, look at the number on the door jamb again, and make sure the "B" isn't really an 8. That would make more sense, as the chassis numbers for '66 began with HAN8. Have you looked for the number behind the right front shock yet?

As to the engine, it's out of a late '62. The 948's were never installed in the roll up window cars. Your '66 should have an engine number beginning with a 10CC prefix.

I noticed when looking at the eBay pictures that it's been upgraded to the later dual circuit brake system, too.

Thanks Jeff now I will have to go out and look again, hehehe!!

Looks tidy for the money! Chassis number should be found inside the engine bay, looking from the front of the car it is to the right of the air filters, on the inside of the wheel arch I think.

You didn't have anything better to do anyway, Mike. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I'm not going outside for anything. It's 28 and snowing, here.

Well, I have no excuses,scept a bit o rain and 78! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Isn't that total crap Jeff? I was looking forward to tinkering with the Sprite, but I don't even want to be outside at all.

I am in a desperate search to find the number plate that goes on the wheelwell under the hood for mine. I took it off 5 years ago and put it in a safe place....not sure where that is now!

Since we're on the subject - is the tag on the door jamb just stamped metal? I ask because it has several coats of paint on it, and is unreadable. I'd like to try some paint stripper, but I don't want to damage it if it's got some detail on it. Well, I suppose that wouldn't matter anyway, because I can't see it now either!
