I've been lurking around here for a while now, and figured I'd introduce myself before somebody called the cops. I've just recently bought my 4th MGB, after a 20-year drought. (LOOONNNNGGGG story...). I've forgotten most of what I knew about B's and look forward to re-learning the old lore.

Tony - The boat is a Catalina 25 that cost less than my B, but needs a LOT more stuff done on it. Actually, I've got to make some decisions on that front: I should trade up, on the misguided theory that a newer boat has fewer needs. Yeah, right. They say that a boat is a hole in the water into which the owner dumps money. I'm sure glad they can't say the same thing about MG's. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif The good news/bad news is that "Blasphemer" and I are on the West Coast for the next year or so and the Catalina is slipped on the Potomac River safely away from my checkbook.

Steve - I think there are about a jillion people with my name. I usually tell people I'm that travel guy on PBS (Rick Steves).
 
Perhaps. I don't recognize the area you took the photo of the B in though. Looks like a canon wheel to the left?
 
Ah. That's the original pic from eBay. I bought the car from a dealer up in Napa, who used one of the local wineries for his photo shoot. I'm living in Monterey right now, attending the Defense Language Institute. A 53-year old Army Reservist learning Arabic. Go figure.

Anyway, the car came sans top - and sans hardware for the top also, which was interesting. Other than needing some serious tune-up work that made a HUGE difference, the biggest issue is/was the way the PO totally messed up the wiring when he installed the new dash panel and "detailed" the engine bay. Even before taking delivery I'd planned on upgrading the wiring under the hood (power relays, modern blade fuses, and so on) - but I hadn't planned on it's being so soon.

I can't believe how delighted I am with the danged thing. Most people just don't understand how much fun it is to tinker around and get a positive result. The day I had all the lights, flashers, blinkers, and horn working properly - you know, left turn signal when you want it instead of the right headlight blinking when you hit the signal /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif - I was grinning all day.

Hear, hear on both counts. The boat's just gonna have to wait a bit, (un)fortunately. When we do trade up, we're actually looking at the Hunters. Sweet boats.

The latest: I redid "Blasphemer's" brakes (master/slave/calipers/etc.) and now my brake lights won't go out. And it's pitch dark outside. Hopefully something is just snugged down wrong. If not, a new switch is cheap. At least it's not snowing....

Switch is adjustable - that's probably all it is.
 
Well, I spent a good part of the afternoon playing with it, and it's not that the switch is out of adjustment. I think the switch itself is bad, I'll have a new one on order this weekend.

Of course I blew a fuse tweaking the switch - The wiring in this car is a mess. I'd blame the PO's electrical skills but the timing of this problem with the recent brake work is too much to ignore. Oh, well, it's annoying but all part of the game.
