MGB Hi All, newbie mgb owner

thanks all for your help. I did a lot of looking last night. took the distributer cap off and low and behold the car has been converted to electronic ignition. found the out of the way and hidden crane 700 ignition box etc. still cant believe I did not know the ignition had been updated but... oh is me. I am going down to pickup a coil and I think while I am there get another crane 700 (just to be on the safe side).

question, when the fuel pump is working and before you start the car, and you put the gas pedel to the floor does a continuous stream of gas continue to flow in the carb (with the air cleaner off of course - by the way there is a weber downdraft carb), just thought I would ask? thanks for the help

No. The fuel pump will fill the float bowls and then stop. If it continues to run, you will have gasoline overflowing and dripping all over the place. This is normally caused by a stuck float valve. When you turn the ignition on, the pump should click a few times and then slow to a stop.

thanks for the help. I reconfirmed the gas supply at the carb. it does fill the bowls and stop. I retraced my steps yesterday afternoon and seem to have gotten a little more info. I confirmed at the sparks plugs no spark. then went to the coil no spark. pulled the coil and ran a ohm meter across it confirming 1 ohm across low end, about 15000 across the hign end. coil appears to be working just fine. but here is the issue how can I check the crane xr700 (from victoria british - https://www.victoriabritish.com/icatalog/mg/0026.html) ignition to see if it is working, or is it one of those things that just has to be replaced?
hope someone can help!
