HF SS Zip Ties

One of the Triumph guys at our Tuesday morning coffee group brought along a bag of these for show & tell:

I had not seen these before but will pick some up next time I'm in my favorite store. I can visualize some uses where regular zip ties would just melt.

I actually used something very similar on the rubber rebound buffers that are tied onto the TR3/4 differential. But I used a tool to cinch everything tight and cut off the excess. I do think they are strong and useful. Exhaust wraps come to mind as another application.
 
I used them (the princess auto ones) to tie my header wrap ends when wrapping the header on my TR3A...worked well.

Neat, but wouldn't these cut into the material more than plastic ones?

Especially if the plastic ones have melted off, ha, but you get my point...
 
Never had a problem, but the blanket material was pretty darn tough, and fire resistant.
 
Thanks for the sources guys. I'll try the 1.75->2.0 inch stepped clamp and see if they hold. Worst case, I could add a wrap or two of fiberglass tape to bring up the OD.

What are the stainless braided thingies? Reducers? Vibration eliminators? They look neat, maybe I need a pair of those too.
 
Mine were for the Wedge headers mid pipe didn't come close to fitting and those were perfect.
Only problem was the muffler side was to small and leaked so I had a shop weld on a couple of brackets

They are flex couplings. It lets the engine side of the system move, and the rest to be hard mounted. I think most modern exhaust systems use them these days.

Full view. The exhaust system behind the pipes was rigid mounted and the flex pipes allows the engine to shake and the exhaust to expand without breaking the manifold bolts.
 
If you want to seal a band clamp, use multiple (many) layers of heavy duty aluminum foil around the pipe before tightening the band clamp down. An impact wrench comes in handy to suck the band down, starting with a very long bolt (they usually come with these) and changing each bolt independently to much shorter bolts after install. The band clamp will distort to fit any pipe or foil bulge. They are not recommended to be reused, although I have.

The heat blanket and aluminum shield were there to keep the heat off the tranny, and keep oil drips off the pipe. Yes, trannies leak oil and the resultant oil on a hot pipe will cause lots of scary smoke.
