Looks like a great RR trip. We did the Durango to Silverton a few years back and plan to do Cumbres to Toltec soon. Looks like I need to add the Smoky Mtn to my bucket list.

BTW: I watched the steam engine#1702 video (thru the link you listed). It is a very well done video. However towards the end,
the train is passing an old fella out plowing behind a sturdy draft horse. Very nice touch, except the horse didn't like the train & bolted. Hope the old fella was ok!

The ride was fun; kids had a good time and are worn out. (So am I!)

We took the diesel; kids probably wouldn't have known the difference, as we were in an enclosed car five or six back from the engine. Very personable and attentive staff; eccentric story-teller and a guitarist and banjo player doing old-time stuff (clawhammer banjo!), which I enjoyed.

Janet and I are headed out to the front deck with a glass of wine while the boys are just now tucked away in bed.
