Hey Drew....

I take that back Bugsy II is AN5 25172, No L in any of the documents I have. Per BMH it was originally a RHD Sprite.

The travels out little cars must have had to get to us -- some further than others I think. Penny is AN5 21571, sold originally in Penryn, Cornwall, UK.

I'm assuming you're keeping Bugsy II as LHD?

Yes indeed. Per BMH originally registered in the UK as a RHD car and can see wear marks for column etc. Bugsy II git hit in the back end resulting in a new rear clip and lots of rust repair done by PO. Sometime in late '70's it was imported to Quebec as a LHD BE. Guessing sone issue with MOT caused it to be one an export and conversion to LHD.

Since body # is within 100 numbers of VIN number, I do believe this one started as a RHD BE.

I just noticed that the rubber scuff pad on the floor is on the passenger side. It should be on the drivers side. It seems to me that whoever restored the car just used the floor carpet for a left hand drive car. It looks just like my carpet on my left hand drive Bugeye.

I think what you are seeing is a floor mat. You can see there is a red pad on the (RH) driver's side.

Gerard, you are correct with the Y. My first bugeye in Australia had the Australian made plate on the firewall with the VIN, I recall either YAN5 or YHAN5 prefex, engine number, and original color paint code.

Cheers
Lew

All North American export cars have a "L", not an "R". Home market RHD cars have no letter, as the "L" indicates LHD. Cars that went to Australia and NZ were RHD, but were CKD and have their own very different lettering codes, beginning with "Y", as I recall.
