Yes Tony but I'll be d****d if I can think of it!!!!

I was thinkin' that I recalled when I saw the 1st pic (scratching head at HIGH rate of speed)!?!?

Fiat had their 8V, but very limited production - found this on the web:

The 1200/1500/1600 that came out in the late fifties had more of an MGB look to it, but no portholes, as I recall. It morphed into the 124.

I've gotta remember it - had a photo once....it was Ferrari or one of the other exotic makers...

That's more like I was thinkin', Tony??

Whatcha think of fuel door idea??

Ed - think I'll stay with just the one...hehehehe

I did pull up to a gas station the other day in my Jaguar & when I opened both gas fillers, a "Bubba" commented on <span style="font-style: italic">"that thar ferin' car"</span>....hehehe

Chicken   :jester:

Even a dummy one would be "worth" the "head scratching", Tony!! :wall: :hammer:

Anon :jester:

hmmmmm...following the paint scheme idea, wonder what pewter with dark flat grey hood bulge & lght grey stripes on scoop & over body with biscuit Ferrari leather interior on Fiero seats & chocolate carpet would look like? Carroll Shelby wheels with spokes painted dark matte grey like the old American racing wheels on the original Bullit Mustang? Hardtop painted a shade deeper than body?

Port holes must go. Think lovers.

Must.....resist....smart-arsed.....comment.

Agreed on both counts.

A set of E46 M3 side "gills" would look much better. Functional or not, they're out of place. I like everything else, but the portholes need to go.

Sacrilege is right! You took a perfectly fine classic MBG and tripled the HP, put a modern gearbox and then a rare MGC rearend into a gift and ruined the car. Now you are smoothing out the traditional British box with all that fiberglass, edges, flares and (GASP) FRENCHING??? This is an outrage and many of us think you may be going overboard with this foolish waste of time and resourses! :nonono:

Oh yea...I like the portholes

Dang, I'd love to have one like that...I can't wait to see the finished product...although that may be long time in happening!

Bruce

Tony,
Do it the way you want! I am...decided I wanted a flip-top filler on the rear deck, driver's side...with a long pipe connecting it to the fuel cell, offset to the passenger side, for better weight distribution. Oh, and it's all sitting just above the completely Frenched in plate!

I think it looks great. Ive got mine down to a shell and keep agonizing over stock or custom. So I find yours very encouraging! Keep posting those pics.....some of the comments are very interesting!

Does this Ray guy do nice work or what. I am ashamed to go out to my garage.

Lovers?? I know this is a tight knit group but hmmmm..... Louvers might be a more appropriate choice! Isn't interesting what difference a single letter can make at times. Did you ever notice Santa and Satan are only a typo apart! LoL

And in that same vein, this reminds me of the dyslexic philosopher who wondered if there really is a dog.

<Sorry for the hijack! >

Neat project, Tony, But I think you might need to tweak the front end alignment a little bit before any high-speed testing
hehehehe...it barely has enough front end under there to hold the wheels on so it'll roll! Here's what's sitting in my garage waiting for it to come home:

hawkes3.jpg

That's a Hawkes custom coil-over front suspension with Rover SD-1 4-pot calipers (rotors aren't on it yet but they're also trick~slotted, drilled, vented)...here's a closeup of the end of the suspension beam:

coilphoto.jpg

In the same vein, this morning I put what I thought was the wheel/tire combo I was going to use under it: 195/60R15 Kumho Ecsta HP4's mounted on Carroll Shelby 5-1/2J15H2 wheels......UH-UH.....the offset is perfect but they sit 2" inside the fenders! I need to push them out about 1" & then get something that's another inch-or-so wider....I probably can use my same wheels but will need a wider tire (maybe a 50-series will be about 1-1/4" wider) along with an aluminum billet spacer & longer wheel studs...this is the first time I've tried to see what the tires will look like under it. Trial & error!!

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:]Dang, I'd love to have one like that...I can't wait to see the finished product...although that may be long time in happening!

I hope its not that much longer, Bruce.....we're gonna hit the front bodywork hard & fast to get it to where I can see what the 'almost finished' product will look like....heck, to me, its so close I'm beginning to think <span style="font-style: italic">paint</span>!! Saw a new Corvette today that was painted a real nice bronze color!!

&, Jack, you're correct - Ray does nice work!

:driving:

Tony;
I like it! And, I actually think the silver and grey pattern would look extremely excellent.

My only issue is, I can't have it!

Keep up the good work, and have fun.

This is why I love cars, everyone has an opinion and that makes it all better

"Those are Smoothline fiberglass fenders that have had more than a thousand man hours put into them..."

It is going to be an interesting car Tony, but 1,000 man hours? A real good bodyman up here at.. say, "The Guild Automotive" probably makes in excess of $65.00 per hour. Either you found some free work or those are $65,000.00 fenders.

Well, probably not literally a thousand hours but I know he worked on the driver fender for 2 solid months & that was just to get the basic shape including the flares (for which a mold was taken off a 5-series BMW-front & rear) & to figure out how to open the front for the Mini headlights...then he mocked up the bracket for underneath & figured out how to set the headlight so it'll align for night driving...then he built the right fender, maybe a month....now we'll spend another few weeks building the enclosures for the headlights & building the brackets to hold them in the fenders......by & large the fenders have been the most time consuming part of the project.
