This one makes me feel a lot better about the one sitting in the back of my garage!!!

Back to the original auction...I couldn't prove it bit it appears to me that the owner of some of his friends - or "someone" - is bidding the price up! There's several bidders with no feedback & one bidder who hass a brand new eBay account....the car may never 'sell' but would appear to based on bidding.

I don't bid when those things start happening.

I agree, I think it is shill bidding, but ebay has policies in place to deal with such things. It will certainly be suspicious if a new account wins the auction.

When I bought my MK 2 Sprite in 1962 the price was $1355. The price sheet I have gives the 3000 Mk 2 big Healey as $2570 for the 2 seater and $2584 for the 4 seater. I bought my Sprite at Donald Healey's dealership in England so these prices were for purchase in England. I don't know what the Stateside prices were then. It cost me around $400 to have my car shipped from Liverpool to Philadelphia in 1962. So that makes the price of the big Healeys just about double that of the Sprite at that time.

Well Nelson, this is an EASY one as a copy of my cars Maroney (sp?) windshield sticker hangs here in the shop (Org. SAFELY stored in Safety Deposit Box  )

BMC/Hambro, Inc. of Ridgefield, NJ had car sent to New Orleans, LA then Del'd to St.Louis.
Suggest Retail Price (P.O.E.) $3535.00. Add "Optional Whitewall Tires" $35.00, "Dock Handling" $30.00 & "Inland Freight" $75.00 for a Grand Total pf $3675.00.

Currently Insured for $25,000.00 and I do believe I could sell (AIN'T happenin' :hammer: ) for $20K.

25,000 is about the right price adjusted for inflation of the cost of a Big Healey in 2008 dollars.

I figured last year, the new purchase price of my '66 Sprite was about 12,000 dollars in 2007.

So just a bit over double the value.. However, due to supply, demand, and perceived value, the big Healeys are approaching 50k, but the Sprites are nowhere near 25k.

That's the part that interests me. For the prospective buyer of a big Healey, it's near impossible to 'get a good deal' in terms of original value. Spridgets on the other hand are a bargain

Man that one on E-bay is a rotter! The engine, dash and carb are trash, and the rust sure isn't lonely.

Worth $1500 is there's $1000 hidden in the boot.

Yes, I'd say just a tad optimistic, but hopefully there is a real enthusiast out there who can get it for the right price and save it and put another one back on the road!!! Once it's crushed, it's gone for ever!!!!

Back to the original car - its down to a couple of bidders who have on feedbaxck & have only bid on this particular car...in other words, they're bidding against themselves - the car will never sell!

Schill bidding ruins the excitement for me. I wish ebay would crack down on it, but it's not financially in their favor to regulate it. They'd rather the sell get stuck with the car on their hands and have to relist it and come up with some nonpaying bidder story.

Still cheap at $8100.
