Well, we are getting pounded again. This is a series of smaller storms though instead of one big one. So snowfall is actually split up into smaller accumulations. We only got 9 inches last night. More to come later with enough wind to possibly classify as a 'Blizzard' again. All 'upslope' storms too which accounts for our larger accumulations along the front range. Last time we had this much snow from back to back storms in a short period of time was in 1983. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The road graders and plows just came by and sealed off the driveway again. Time to go shovel some more. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Boy I feel for you. My son is stationed in Aurora (USAF) and we were talking last night. Should be pretty deep by New Years!! This is his first snowy winter (Fl. boy) and I think he has had enough already!!

The snow never really bothered me when I lived there. But with Denver's weather making the news so much - I'll never be able to talk my wife into moving back there. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Ya need some covers for those babies!

WHEW! I'll take out early morning dips into the high 30's!

<GROAN!> Oh man. Just seein' the pix makes my skin all *itchy*.

Careful with that "snow shoveling" thing... I hear about peeps fallin' dead after doin' too much of it.

In NY we always get tons of snow by now. Not a flake yet and January is right around the corner. What gives?

Buckley is (was) an Air National Guard base.

However, I think there used to be another base besides Buckley that was for training aircraft ordnance men. Kind of weird, because the base didn't have it’s own airfield. I know this because when I lived there (about a half mile from Buckley) they closed down the streets in the middle of the night once to tow an F16 to the training facility for the trainees/students to work on. I think they closed that base in the late 80's or early 90's. Again it didn't make since to have an USAF base that didn't have an airfield.

That's it! I'm one of those who dosn't support base closings out of hand. But Lowery seemed like a waste of time & money to me.

So does anyone know if Buckley is still an Air Guard base?

It is now a real live Air Force Base

(By the way, I went to High School in Aurora)

Basil, I rather think the scene of your yard is rather purty. We're snow free out here (very unusual this time of year). One of the things about winter I like is taking pictures of the snow, particularly soon after its fallen but before people shovel it all away (while I would not own a house without a snowblower, they wreck the beautiful sculpting of fresh snow).

I also enjoy a good snowball fight.

And, as a PS to those of you doing the shoveling, take it slow at first. I believe that one of the reasons you hear of all these people dropping dead while shoveling snow is simply because they jumped right into it without warming up first. I mean, you don't start a run by sprinting off, do you? You don't just pick up weights and start heaving them around the gym, right? Course not, you stretch and take it easy for a minute or two. Shoveling snow is just working out with a more pragmatic purpose than just getting in shape. This could be doubly important if you're not in good shape in the first place.

Works wonders if you have a bad back, too.

-Wm.

My mom always added sweetened carnation condensed milk and a little vanilla. Of course being from Arkansas, we don't get to try this too often......but we're hoping to see some of the action out west move our way this year.

After the last 10 days that we have had your welcome to as much as you want. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Were starting a pool to see how long some of the piles are around. Even if we get some warmer weather and some chinook winds, they are going to be around for a while. Though January is usually one of our coldest months, which won't help. Locally we refer to frigid January temps as 'Stock Show' weather. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
