Post-War Other Herald flywheel

The good news is the gas tank is cleaned- for the second time and installed in the car. The under bonnet stuff is much cleaner and the the three pieces of metal separating the engine from the elements has been painted and ready to install. This is the car that was going to go to Triumphest in a week. Oh well.

For the 1965 Herald I ordered the clutch kit- throw out bearing, clutch cover and clutch plate. Unfortunately Victoria British sent the part I ordered, not the one I wanted. Can I replace the Herald flywheel with a left-over Spitfire MKI, II flywheel? That might be easier and quicker than returning the part and ordering one from Rimmer Bros.

I tell myself this is less work than the restorations I've done on the Spitfires.

Question is (ok, three questions): what did you get? what did you think you were going to get? and what did you have that you needed to replace? A '65 Herald with everything original to the car would have the 6.25" coil spring clutch...as would a "Mk1" Spitfire. It was the Mk2 and later Spitfires that got the 6.5" diaphragm clutch, which basically never appeared on any Herald sold in the US. Note that, between the two styles of clutches, not only the pieces you mention are different, but so are the flywheel, the throwout bearing carrier and the slave cylinder. It's all bolt-on swap, of course (given that you'd need to change the flywheel, but that's bolt-on as well).

Thanks for your response. So, I can replace the fly wheel and use the MKI clutch, cover and throw out bearing. I think I have a MKI carrier in my stock of parts. I'm thinking this may be a better option so I can use more Spit parts rather than going to the UK for everything. Still, I don't think the car will be ready for the Triumphest next week. Thanks again.
