Henry Manney Special

Two stories. 1. Here in town, a fast food place called Hoosier Chicken used a Crosley Hotshot to deliver fried chicken. One day the teen aged driver took a corner too fast and flipped the Crosley. He survived - the car did not. 2. Manney wrote about dining in Italy with Enzo Ferrari or some Italian race drivers in Bologna where he ate Zampone washed down with Lambrusco. Years later, my wife and I retraced Manney's steps and ate in a local restaurant in Bologna where I ordered Zampone and Lambrusco. The waiter looked at me strangely like I was from outer space. The Zampone arrived. It was terrible - like leaden kishka or stuffed derma, and the Lambrusco was sickening (it was becoming a pop wine here in the States). Everyone else in the joint was eating regular stuff like Osso Buco or Pasta. Alas for legend. We later visited the Ferrari factory but were refused admittance. I did visit the Ferrari museum across the street where I bought my old racing buddy Bart a model Ferrari. End of dream. Be careful what you wish for.

You're right. Who knew? Speaking of Manney, I still have a lot of old Road and Tracks. If anyone is interested, send me a Pm or email.
