Help with Waxoyl and POR 15

Just can't recall. Is it best to put Waxoyl into the frame holes and spaces before, or after, painting the outside with POR 15. If Waxoyl is messy, I don't want to have to prepare the frame all over again. thx

I would definitely do it after.

POR-15 needs a clean surface (typically Marine Clean'd). Once its dry, its almost like a ceramic, so not much will get through it. I can't see trying to put it on top of waxoyl or what advantage there would be to putting it on top.

Agreed - think of Wayoyl as a last step. If the surface has been really well covered with POR15 then it might be overkill as Guzzul suggested.

The routine in the UK is to spray rust converter into places you can't brush and then pit Waxoyl on as a backup system...

Waxoyl is messy. You want everything done before you apply this. It's wax and oil. It runs until it semi-solidifies.

POR-15 first, then Waxoyl. As mentioned, the prep work for POR requires a thoroughly degreased, acid etched, phosphate coated surface for adhesion. Waxoyl would definitely come later.

KVH, make sure to put some plastic wrap or such down on the floor, or you'll be sliding in the waxoyl drips for awhile! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Also a good idea when painting with the POR15 to avoid giving your floor the "Dalmation dog" random spots everywhere look.

Make sure to also wear gloves when using POR15! Wipe your forehead at your own risk....

Agreed. Greeting business associates with black streaks across your face ends up leaving the wrong impression, and explanations sound lame no matter how hard you try.
