Help with value of AH 3000 restoration project

A fellow car club member has a AH 3000 in his garage that he had a professional restore the body and paint it. The paint is BRG with white two tone. The owner says he choose this but remembers its not correct for the year. Not sure what model year 3000 it is. It has single front marker lamps if that helps. The body work and paint is SHOW QUALITY.

The rest of the car is 95% complete as far as parts. The front suspension and rear axle have been painted black and the car is a rolling shell. Engine is not rebuilt and the interior will probably need replacing. Will need new windshield and top....etc too.

All the owner mentioned as far as price was he wants something in the "teens."

My father and I are great at mechanicals and since the body and paint is finished on this car it is a very attractive project that we could make a turn around on.

Lastly, we have a good friend that is a judge at Healy shows and owns two gorgeous 100 point Mk2 BJ8s. He would help with originality and parts sources.

Will the experts give me an idea on what an engine rebuild and interior costs would be? How much are tops?

THANKS!!!

DavidK, Professionally done:
Complete engine overhaul $7000.00, Top $250-to-$500
Interior $3000.00, Windscreen $250-to-$500, Chrome $2000.00-to-$3500.00.Prices in different sections of the country may vary but not much---Keoke

And if you're like me -- with experience from the customer side of this equation (although I haven't had the pleasure of being a customer of Keoke's) -- you must remember to double all estimates, then add 50 percent to that... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

The body (fitting) and paintwork were the biggest obstacles for me to overcome. Now I just need the incentive to continue and get the rest of the car finished!

To start a restoration with the body & paintwork behind you would be like a dream! BTW, nice E-36!

Sounds like it would be worth considering....... just were in Tennesse did you say it is? (if the grill bars are vertical it's 1961 and up ,if they are horizonal 57-61)
(I am sure there will be amendments to this)

davidk,i believe the single front marker lamps are indicative of models all the way up to some early bj8's,anyway i think keokes correct about the engine rebuild and i hope when he says "total rebuild"it includes new crank, cam, lifters, pistons,so on and so on,everything if not,im more happy to be living on the "right coast"! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

Thanks everyone for your responses. I'll get an idea on the condition of the other parts and talley up if this project is worth doing.
