HELP!... with Chrome

When I boot up Chrome my start-up page is set to the Google website.
This morning when I booted up Chrome I get this unwanted website that loads in addition to the Google website.
I've tried to no avail to delete it but it won't go away. I did run virus and malware scan but it comes up clean.
I also went to the Chrome tool bar and went to settings but I cannot get rid of this unwanted website.
Also, I went to the chrome tool bar and went to "Tools" then to "Extensions" but there were NO extensions showing????
I'm running XP by the way.
HELP please.
 
If Basil hasn't solved it (and I am sure he has) go into Chrome settings - "on startup" set pages - you can delete it there. Then just in case, go to "search" and manage search engines to see if any need deleting
 
BTW, the symptoms you describe sure sound like a trojan has taken over your browser; they get by anti-virus apps often. I've had to deal with that on my neighbor's XP computer several times.

OK, I resolved the issue by removing chrome and switching over to FireFox.
JP... That's exactly what I did... I went to settings and found the address and deleted it from the start-up page. Guess what? I came back as soon as I rebooted chrome; that leads me to Tom... he is also right, it's was probably a trojan. I ran virus scans a couple of times and it was not found. This trojan also got rid of all my extensions in chrome. Deleting chrome seemed to have done the trick. Why the heck do people put this ecoli (;)) on the net anyway?

Glad you got it sorted out. But I'm betting the l'il bugger trojan is still lurking on your HD, waiting for another opportunity.

What antivirus, etc. apps are you running?

Happens a lot when you download updates all the time.
It buried in the small print with a tiny little box to check

My laptop has anAVG browser on it and I keep forgetting to dismiss it
 
I'm running Norton Anti virus and ARO... Is there anything else I should run to maybe catch it?
 
Get rid of Norton and use AVG
Course I'm biased.
Doc suggested it years ago to me
If it was from a download...you have to look at each screen carefully to see if there is a browser planted
 
Elliot - here's what I've used in the past for the "hijacked browser" problem.

Download and run MalWareBytes (it's free to run). This found and removed the problem every time (three computers).

Downloaded it and restarted computer in Safe Mode. Ran Malwarebytes in safe mode.

Usually you keep hitting F8 when you power up the system.
 
MalwareBytes is great for finding the lurking trojans. AVG Free is still the best of the AV warez I've found. They're getting a bit cagey about loading "value added" bloatware into their download though. As Don says, ya gotta pay attention when installing. UN-checking all the: "You're gonna want this!" stuff.
