TR2/3/3A Help! What have I bought?

So P/N 302118 (for H6 carbs but pre-Le Mans head) must be really rare; with less than 400 originally sold (TS8997E until TS9350E). The one I have is the Le Mans version.

Yes, that would be exceptionally rare given the smaller diameter ports with bigger carbs. I have a Le mans head and intake, I've never seen a 302006 in person. The 302118 is actually the Le Mans intake that you have.

According to the SPC 4th ed, 302118 started at TS8997E and was replaced by 302006 at TS9350E. There is an amendment showing a new P/N 305547 being introduced, but that was much later.

What do you have that shows the early numbers reversed?

Interesting. It does seem more likely that the higher number was later, but the reverse order is spelled out even more clearly in supplement #1 to the 1st ed of the SPC. (Sorry, my scanner isn't working or I'd post a scan.)

I just did some measuring. I have both a 301145 and a 302118. The early 301145 has 1 13/32 openings and is low port for H4 carbs. The 302118 has 1 1/2 openings, low port, and the four bolt setup for H6 carbs. This is concurrent with the Piggott book. There is even a note in the Piggott book saying the SPC transposed the numbers.

On a side note, what manifolds do you have?

Hi all,

There seemed to be quite a bit of interest in this car a couple of years ago so I figured that I would give you an update. The potential buyer (who made the original post) didn't buy the car in the end but I thought that it had good restoration potential so I bought it instead. Anyway, from local records I've found that she's a TR2 built in Durban, South Africa in August 1955 (hence the chassis # TR751, Engine # TS7514E, commission # TS7188). Since purchasing the car, I spent quite a bit of time removing and replacing the various TR4 parts along with many other little jobs before handing her over to Bill at CCC for reconditioning of the engine, restoration of the front and rear suspension, installation of the front inner wings, installation of a new wiring loom, replacement of the rusted sills and rear fender bottoms and many other items that required attention. She's no show queen (yet) but she's now at a stage where I can happily drive her for another year before sanding down the body, doing a respray, and redoing the interior (I'm doing a body-on restoration due to limited funds, garage space, and time). It seems that I can't upload any photos but I'll try again as she progresses.

Good to hear that the car went to someone that wanted to get her back to near original and have fun driving.

Yes, I certainly agree with David. It seems the car got into the right hands after a long time in the wrong ones. The numbers surely help. You're well on your way to driving a very nice and quite rare TR2.
