I have a bugeye that has been sitting many years. I am trying to remove the bonnet, but am having problems. When I tried to remove the first bolt, it broke off. I heated the other bolts. I got three out. On the other side one bolt broke off even after heating them. The last three just spin-as if the backing plate or nuts have worked loose. Any ideas on how to proceed? Any help is greatly appreciated.

get some pb blaster. this is mandatory.
spray every nut screw anything that moves, then wait a day and do it again.
now for bonnet removal....lets assume it opens from the front, like most conventional hoods (some have switch to forward Tilt ) forget the hinge to bonnet bolts for now.
each hinge is held on by one bolt that can be accessible under the dash......use the PB blaster on these parts before attempts to remove. once bolts are removed bonnet can be lifted off. use one person on each side.
of course all wiring needs disconnected and bonnet props removed first.

I have giving information I know you knew. but I thought someone Eles might read this that didn't. basically thinking out of box and remove hinges so you can get bonnet off to rework hinge to bonnet bolts

Good idea, especially since I only have one hinge to remove the whole thing. Out of curiosity, is there a nut or plate inside the bonnet for the eight bolts?

if I remember correctly the nut is welded to bonnet brace accessible from backside. once you can lay bonnet upside down drill put broken bolts. I start with small bit then work size up

also if yo need to replace the factory nut drill two holes in brace where nut is located. hold new nut in place with long bolt to hold nut firm then spot weld nut / grind then paint

Thanks guys. I put PB blaster on. I will give it a good spray tomorrow and then wait one more day. Thanks for the tip for putting in the new nuts, too.
