Well, I got my engine and my Overdrive transmission pulled from the doner yesterday, ended up me and my two buddies had to do it, but that would lead into a LONG rant.
Getting it in the GT was a lot easier then pulling it out though. It helps when you know what will be catching on the frame /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Anyway, no one told me there is a different drive shaft, but luckly, the guy I got it from did. After a lot of sore mussles, and a few new words, I am getting close. BUT, What is the easiest way to line up the Tranny mount that goes across the frame? I am about 3/4 of an inch forward of the bolt holes on the drivers side. Should I have put these in before I attatched the other bolts on the long pole thing that goes to the front of the Tranny?
There must be a method.
Thanks
Paul
By the way, when I picked it up yesterday, the guy said I was lucky I did, because he had a guy offer him $500.00 JUST FOR THE TRANSMISSION!!!! I didn't have the heart to tell him my mechanic had it sold for $2,000.00 if I brought it right to him. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I good $900.00 pick-up I would say then. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/canpatriot.GIF

Sure!

I must assume that it is still supported somehow (at the engine and under the tranny?).
Loosen the nuts holding the engine mount to both the engine and the frame horns. Loosen the steady rod nut (rear) as far as it will go. Make sure the wheels are well chocked and pull one side of the cross member into position and start a bolt. Run it in a few turns then do the same with the other side. Then put in the other two bolts.
This was a pain on my cars too. I found that re-positioning the hook on the cherry picker to a point farther forward on the engine and then putting load toward the rear of the car with the cherry picker would help scoot the assembly back far enough to start the bolts.
You may also double check to ensure that nothing is trapped between the firewall and the engine... The starter sometimes likes to collect hoses and cables and pinch them.

Mike!
