Help Healey BJ8 overdrive just stopped working?

I had a similar problem a while back. Check the solenoids... You may find that there may be a bad electrical connection somewhere underneath the tunnel. If there is a bad connection, check the "activator" solenoid; as it may have "burn" it out.

Same experience a couple of months ago although mine was intermitent. Turned out the the solenoid was the problem. They are not all that expensive, but you have to pull the tunnel to replace it.

Check the gearbox oil first. Easy stuff first!

Low oil can cause all kinds of symptoms.

I was just coming back from a long run and my overdrive just stopped working any ideas would be appreciated.
Plenty of oil in box.

The solenoid can be heard to "click", but that's not a 100% positive sign it's actuslly working. While driving your solenoid will need to be able to "pull up" and if it's in the least bit week it won't be able to do that. This was my last solenoid problem before I went 5 speed trans.

Hi OK I have fixed it. Many thanks for info above but it was not one of them. The fault was the pressure valve on the right hand side of the overdrive unit, I just took out the spring and small shaft also the ball bearing. It was all cleaned thoroughly and replaced, took it out for a test run and all was fine. I think it might have been a a small blockage or the valve had got stuck in the off position. Whatever it was all is now working.
