Help! 71 MBG with Starter Run on Problem

Am new to this site. Have a 71 MGB with rebuilt starter... old one died.

I hit the key, starter cranks, but won't quit until I disconnect battery. I disconnected the key, jumped the solenoid with a screwdriver (old school) and it does the same thing after I pull the "jumper" screwdriver.. motor has set for years so I've pulled the plugs to allow to crank over easy.

Any suggestions?

Mitch

Sounds like the contacts in the solenoid are sticking. If you car reach it, give the solenoid a sharp whack the next time it does that. Bob

So, is the motor running or just the starter drive not disengaging?
