Wednesday update...
We're in full primer! Pintopaint is ordered and it's nearly showtime!

Oh then, you picked a Pinto color? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I had a lovely gold colored Pinto that would look great on a Binabox /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cowboy.gif

My Pinto was orange.

Got this email from our painter/bodyman last night:

"It's a DuPont store but, they should be able to cross over a PPG number. The smallest amount I can get mixed is 1 pint. They as well as most paint stores on this side of the river aren't open on Saturday.

If you send me the number I'll call and have some mixed and sprayed before Chuck comes over again.

Is he coming over tomorrow? If so, I probably won't have it sprayed or even delivered before he gets here.

When he does come over, I'll have him strip the underside of the hood so I can get it back on and straightened. Its a long story and I'll tell you later.
John"

WHY does that last sentence make me a little nervous?

Straightened doesn't sound good to me. And why is chuck stripping it? Are you paying the painter for this labour?

Ominous....hmmmmmm...options:

1) Hood was standing in corner when somebody knocked it over, or
2) Helper dropped something heavy on hood, or
3) Somebody used back side of hood to test a color before spraying somebody else's car, or
.........

When I was there Monday, the hood was on the car. John doesn't have any helpers except Chuck.

And, John lets Chuck do as much as he can or wants to do on the car himself. He doesn't get 'paid' for whatever work Chuck does.

Wrote John, said, for some reason that makes me nervous. Here's the explanation:

"While rearching the hood for the new grille, some of the old "plastic" cracked. When I ground the plastic off I found a hole in the hood and it had to be welded."

WHEW! I was imagining this mangled piece of aluminum.

We'll be painting this time next week the way it looks.

WHEW!

You will only be painting if you pick a color, hehe.

This is true, but we're making progress.

I'm sorta a newbie here, but I always choose my final color of primer based on the color of paint I'll be using....green paint - green primer, yellow paint - yellow primer....well, you get the idea.....'course I've only painted a few cars!

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif newbie

Progress, oh I like the sound of that.

Hehe, you just might be the newbie here Tony, John's got 30+ years experience. You were still saluting and wearing uniforms when he was doing this.

The color of the primer is the least of my worries. Because if we go with one color, there will be a metallic undercoat, 3 coats of paint and clearcoat. It won't show through. In fact, I'm certain it won't be an issue no matter what color we go.

Oooooohhhhh Candy blue!

with gold leaf graphics under layed? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Oh my god, I want some, can't wait. Gold candy apple blue. It does have a ring dosn't it?

Yep, Janel - I've not painted a many as he...lemme see, 60 this month...first car I painted was a '53 Studebaker while I was in high school in the early 60's....probably only painted 20 or so...so he's got me...but, still, the deepest, nicest paint jobs I've done had a primer that was the same as the paint or a bit lighter. FWIW

You've painted 60 cars this month and it's only the 9th? DAYUM!
