hello from the UK!

Hi everyone! I was just surfing around looking for MG stuff and came across this forum. Looks really friendly. Anyway, im Paul and im from Cornwall in the UK. Ive always had a love of British cars and have owned several Rovers, MGs and Austins over the years. Here are my current cars:

This is my pride and joy an '04 MG ZS180 2.5 V6 in Firefrost Red. Im a big fan of ZS's. Have you any knocking around in the states?

Next up is my wifes (Kelly) car but it was actually bought by me. Its a '00 Rover 24 1.4is in Royal Blue. Its far from standard though, its been lowered and had an MG ZR160 bodykit fitted along wih the wheels from the same car:

And finally here is my '86 Mini Mayfair rolling shell. Ive just had it sprayed in Fiat Rosso Red with a Jet Black roof. Its actually up for sale as i need the cash for other thngs /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Not many of those (MG ZS or Rovers) over here. Yours are very nice, indeed.

Too bad you must sell the Mini, but from the looks of it, you should have no trouble.

Your cars look great....but those of us in the USA are never likely to see them.
The MG ZS and the Rover 24 were never certified for use in the USA.
The only way an American could bring one of these cars into the USA legally would be if they were brought in for racing or track-use only. It would be virtually impossible to legally register one of these cars for regular road use. That doesn't mean there are none. Sometimes non-US spec cars are snuck in from Canada or Mexico. But the cost and legal risk could be very high. There is also a "bonding" process that allows cars to be brought in, but the cost far exceeds the value of the car....it tends only to be used with hyper-expensive exotic cars.
It is possible for diplomats to bring in non-US spec cars, but most do not, as it is generally a hassle getting service.

The 1.4 K-motor in your Rover is slightly familiar to Americans as it briefly came in older Elises that were imported here (but present US-spec Elises have a Toyota engine). The 2.5 V6 in your MG would be very unfamiliar to Americans. It was never used in any US-spec cars to my knowledge.

Older "classic" cars are allowed to be brought to the US (and sidestep safety and emissions regulations) if they are at least 25 years old. Even your Mini is too new to be brought here legally.

We miss many nice cars in the USA due to our restrictive laws. In particular, I'd like to see some of the small displacement Euro diesel cars.

aeronca, early model LR Freelanders were sold over here with the same 2.5 KV6 engine i belive. did you not get that model in the states? Kia have used the same engine in their Sedona MPV aswell. its a pretty good engine, gives 180bhp in stock trim, can easily reach 210bhp with a bit of fettling.

You're correct. We did get the LR Freelander with that V6. I'd forgotten about that.
