Hi all!

I'm Joe, a 16-year-old enthusiast of primarily trucks and buses but I have also always had a keen interest in cars, especially British cars.

My all-time favourite car? Ford GT40.

Good morning, Joe! (Well, it's morning for us on this side of the pond!) And welcome to the BCF!

You are certainly one of, if not the, youngest members of our gang here. It's great to see the younger crowd taking interest in all things in the world of cars. And the Ford GT is a great flagship!

Mickey

Welcome, Joe!

These days, it's not too hard to see a "new" Ford GT at a local car show. But I have seen several real GT-40s (including Dan Gurney's car with the "bumps"). The new ones are keen but the old ones are the coolest.

When I was a kid in England (early 1950s), they took some of the old double-decker busses and parked them on the beach and rented them out as "beach cottages".
Somewhere, I have a picture of my folks on vacation at one of these "cottages". Wish I could find it.

Here's a photo taken a few years ago at one of our British car shows here in New Jersey (called "Britfest"). A local guy often brings his DD bus to this show. He has to plan his routes carefully so as not to hit any bridges or low wires.

Thanks both of you :D

@Mickey: I suppose I am going to be one of the youngest, as I'm too young to own a car for another 4 months :( Need to get a weekend job to pay for lessons as well...

@aeronca65t: I haven't actually ever seen a Ford GT or GT40 in the flesh, so to speak, but I live in an area of Manchester not really known for its wealth, so the best we see normally are Porsche's and TVR's, which still isn't bad, and I do see the odd Ferrari, but probably hired. That's a pretty nice Bristol Lodekka as well, normally most that were exported are in a bit of a state nowadays, a shame really.

Hi Joe, welcome to the forum. I'm from Wolverhampton. I was sixteen when I had my first car, couldn't drive it until I was seventeen of coUrse, but worked on it and learned about cars that way.

Hi There Joe,

"Welcome" to "THEE" best LBC site anywhere on the planet. When you do get your "Motor"; Post some pics, desc. etc. If you will need any advice on buying a specific marque; Post some questions here as well. I`m sure you`ll get all the help you need.

Happy "Future" Motoring,

Russ

@Steve Thanks :D If I got a car now, it'd be even more useless because my parent's don't drive, and the only parking I have would be on-street, so no space to fiddle around with it for 4 months.

@toysrrus Thanks as well, and I'll be sure to post a picture when I get a car (which with any luck will be 6 months from now). Naturally I'd like a classic, but insurance and even the cost of getting the car is going to be difficult to get hold of.

Joe - welcome to BCF!

You don't drive, and your parents don't drive. Something that's not likely here in highway-happy USA!

If you had all the money in the world, and owned Manchester United as well ... what would be your top pick for a classic British car?

Good to have you with us!
Tom in Connecticut (currently planning the "Humber Haven")

@NutmegCT: Thanks for the welcome! As for not driving, the public transport system round Manchester's pretty good, so my parents don't really need to drive. Besides. My dad's never wanted to, despite having an interest in classic cars, and my mum failed her test twice about 22 years ago and never bothered since. As for if I had enough money to not have to worry about money, I honestly don't know what I'd go for. If the Ford GT40s considered British then that, otherwise Aston Martin DB5

Hello All. I'm a new member hoping to get good info to help with restore of 72 XJ6. I also have 67 XKE I haven't started on. My first British Car was a Triumph GT6 purchased new in 1972. I've liked sports cars since I was very young.
