Hi all,

I've been a lurker on here for a little while but only recently joined up.

As per the title, I'm British - I live just outside of London. I realise this is predominantly a US based forum, but I've always found it to be a much more 'positive' place than some of the UK forums, with great advice and some practical tips.

My reason for joining is that I've recently taken on the re-build of my Father's TR3a. It's been in the family for over 20 years, and used continually up until about 4 years ago. We've done many European road trips in that time, including to Le Mans and Le Mans Classic as well as countless trips up and down the UK, especially to Goodwood for the Revival every year.

We always revelled in the car being 'rough and ready', never scared to leave it on the verge outside the pub and never irked when it picked up a new scratch or two - it was driven in all weathers, rain or shine (more rain than shine over here) Sports cars are to be driven in my opinion and we certainly did just that. But now after over 20 years of good service and running repairs, it's time for a bit more TLC to bring her back to her former glory.

I'm sure I'll have lots of ignorant, 'newbie' questions along the way, so appreciate everyone's patience.

Would love to see some pictures of your Father's TR3a! You will find a lot of help in our Triumph forum!

Really? I think it looks very good. Nothing like patina. A little detailing, make it mechanically sound and you're good to go. This is our "10 footer". Mechanically excellent (That should put the curse on it), cosmetically decent. Above all, fun to drive!!!

Thanks. She's worn the patina well for the last 15 years or so. Mechanically there's not much wrong, but unfortunately the rot has set in. Inner and outer front wings, sills and B posts are all pretty rotten and need repair / replacing.
 
Glad to see you and your TR3 here. My TR6 is no show car. Some funny 'cross the pond incidents do happen. A local TR6 got repatriated, and the new owner reached out to our Lorain County, Ohio, USA club when he found a LoCoBrits decal on the windscreen.
 
I love our TR3 but find that the low profile makes it harder to get in and out as we get older. It is fun to drive and gets lots of looks. Keep yours in the family, they are a great car.;
 
I'm thinking that virtually any LBC is going to be hard to exit. Seems at least the TR3's low cut doors allow EMT's to extricate LBC drivers fairly easily after our kneecaps lock up! Good solution? Spray the door jambs with PAM (the anti-stick stuff for frying pans) or WD40. It may be embarrassing but on-lookers will get a kick out of it and perhaps the judges will give high marks for extrication in the pike position with a 1/2 twist!!
