Hi all,
I have owned my 1974 TR6 since November, 1982 when I bought it in Toronto and a few days later drove it to Calgary, Alberta where I was working at the time. It was a mere 3,400 kilometres (2,100 miles) in winter but the TR did not complain and we have been together ever since. I have had the car three years longer than my marriage.
It's been through a lot of the usual TR6 woes (engine change, clutch, rear-end change, etc.) but I have not been an ideal owner. I drove it regularly during driving season (April through October up here) and stored it during the winters. My goal was a ground-up restoration. But in the mid-to-late 1990s life, kids, work, home renovations got in the way and it sat in our garage for many years.
It was driven a few times, most notably when our son took his date to the senior prom around 2008 but the last time it was licenced was 2010 and the last time it was snuck out on the road was around 2018. That did not end well because it left me stranded and walking a good hour home because of (I suspect) a dirty fuel filter and mostly because I stupidly left my cell phone at home. Did I mention we live out in the sticks? At least my wife got a good laugh.
Sorry to ramble on.
As you can see, and as my wife will tell you, I am a great procrastinator. But finally, as my fifth year of retirement approaches, I realize it is time to get the TR back on the road. So I have been devouring You Tube videos (oh how I wish they were around when I was driving and fixing the car regularly) and poking around forums like this one. While I have done almost all the work on the car myself with some help on occasion, I am far from mechanically inclined. So if this proceeds as I hope, I may be more of a taker of advice than a giver.
But it's certainly nice to be here.
Cheers
