In order not to ba a lurker I thought I'd step up and introduce myself. I've been addicted to Triumphs for about 10 years now.
My first car was a 65 MkII Spitfire that was rescued from a field where it sat for 10 years. Needless to say it was a mess! Long story, short I brought it back up to a show winner (It took best in class at the Autumn Classic here in Central Ca in 2002) In the mean time I adopted a 63 TR4 and a 69 TR6.
On the sad side a few months back I decided to sell the Spit to build an artist studio for my wife. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nopity.gif
So now I am starting over with the TR6 and 4. My TR6 is running, well it will again after the front end rebuild is complete, hopefully this month. The commission number is CC25983. For me it is special as it is one of the first 1000 made. It has the Rostyle hub caps, which I thinkare pretty cool. The down side is it was resprayed white, and poorly at that! The original color is red, hopefully before too long it will return to its former color.
The TR4 is a long term project, as it is my first frame off restoration, frame down is complete, next is the body work. I'll probably take a course at the local JC to get my confidence up to tackle the body and paint.
As for me, I'm 44 and live on the Central Coast of Ca. in San Luis Obispo.

Cheers,

Welcome Rob from the chilly, rainy Mid-West. I hope you find this forum as useful and as addicting as I do.

Hello Rob, and welcome to the Hotel California of Triumphs. Basil has worked his spell on all of us. Hope we can be of some help. Is your wife going to paint pictures of British cars? HEE HEE. Wayne

Actually Wayne she is a book artist. She restores and makes books. I'm hoping she will bind my Triumph World magazine collection into volumes. I just have to strum those guilt strings a little more! HEHE

Cheers,
Rob

Welcome to the forum Rob. Good luck with your 6 and 4. I myself own a 66 MkII spit, and a 79 1500. The later I am considering either turning into a race car, or building a monster out of using a Jag V12. Yes the engine and trans will fit, and the rear end will fit with some modification. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Hi, Rob. Welcome to the Forum, and thanks for the introduction. It's always good to hear the stories behind the names.

A TR4 and a TR6 seem like a pretty good trade for a Spitfire to me. (Betcha I'm gonna hear about THAT one!) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Hi Rob,
Welcome to the Forum. Unfortunately life is full of trade offs, and you still have the 4 and the 6. And take no notice of anything Mickey tells you, it's not his real name, he's nicknamed after some crazy mouse down in Florida with big ears!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif If nothing else, you'll have fun here!

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the welcome. I know the V12 will fit. Last year in Spitfire/GT6 magazine there were a series of articles titled Spitcat, that went step by step through the swap...pretty interesting, even more to drive I bet! If you're not familiar with the articles I'd be happy to dig them up and forward them to you.

Cheers,
Rob

Rob- you're quote is one of my mottos. I've always owned slow cars /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Rob,

I haven't read the articles from the Spitfire/GT6 magazine. I work at a small import dealer and garage, and we have made several interesting engine swaps in the past, MGB with a 350 chev, 240 SX Nissan with a LS1 corvette engine, a 3000 healy with a 289 ford in it. We have an old junked XJ12 sitting in the back and so droping its running gear into my spit was a logical step for me. Well maybe not that logical, but it does make sense for me. Anyway if you would be so good as to forward the articles sometime, I'd really appreciate it.
