New member from Sarasota Fla. Had a beautiful little 1970 MGB, and it really was a "agile athelete" - back in my college days just before British Leyland folded. Getting near retirement from the 8-5 saltmines job, and getting the itch to hop back in a LBC, tinker and wrench some. TR-6's presently got my attention. Thanks for the awesome site, Basil.

Welcome! It's a "good itch". We all have it here!

If you have the dough, a TR-6 is a nicer highway cruiser. It's also a bit more complex and restoration can be more involved. An MGB is just a bit smaller, cheaper, simpler and better for darting about on local roads (unless you find an overdrive car).

But both are great in their own way.
I have an MGB (and a bunch of Spridgets...and even a Miata), but I'd like to have a TR-6 as well (truthfully, I'd *really* like to have a TR-3).

Hi There Simpson,

"Welcome" to "THEE" best Brit Car Experience you`ll ever encounter.

I had a sweet `72 TR6 & just missed a really nice `71 TR6 on ebay in Atlanta, GA for $8500.

My 1st choice would be a "Primrose Yellow" TR3 but TR6 will fit just fine for the time being.

"MGB" or "TR_____"? Personally, There are just "WAY TOO MANY" MGs avail. & they just don`t seem to appreciate, don`t have the performance factors or the styling of a Triumph (Nothing personal to all you MG folks out there).

You`ll find your going to have to pay a bit more for a TR over an MGB but "You get what you pay for"!

Don`t ask the fellow in Puerto Rico if he got what he paid for cause he`ll probably go off the deep end. "Just kidding"!

Yep, I think I'm going to be bringing a 6 home one day. Saw this pretty thing out in Arizona that tempted me to tap the equity in my home to bring it to florida. I got to thinking that leveraging my equity on a 33 year old car was not where I should start though.

Dear Dr. E,

You be astute, as I be married. Trouble is, not too long ago I thought I just had to fulfill a long-time desire to experience the "ultimate driving machine" before I die, and got into a used 03 530 sports & prem. packaged wonder using our equity line. I had the notion that it would become a hobby of sorts and I would try to do much of the maintenance and repairs myself. Kind of lost interest in the hobby aspect of BMW ownership, and BMW engineering looks to be heading towards more and more driver/hobbist disconnect - their newer cars don't even have a dip-stick! It really is a tight, high performance ride, but there's some disconnect of driver/ driving experience that I experienced with that quirky, leaky, top-down, low to the ground MGB.
 
When a manufacturer touts alloy frames and electronic wizardry to maintain a constant, consistent mixture, just RUN!!! Unless you have the wallet to obtain both the analyzing equipment and go thru the specialised training required to RUN it, you instead ~NEED~ an old, leaky, rattling, what-th-heck-was-THAT(?!?!) MGB!!! :devilgrin:
