Hello All!

I am a new member, and joined because I have just purchased an Austin Healey frame, half chassis, and serial number plate. Everything else is missing. The trunk has a Sprite emblem.

I was hoping someone could help me decipher what year/make/model AH Sprite I have, by the serial number, HAN6L/18036.

Is it a 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, or 1969?

Is it a MKI, or MKII? Is it a Bugeye, or what?

Thank you.

First of all, welcome! You seem to have a MkII Sprite, possibly manufactured in 1961. If you introduce yourself on the Spridgets forum I have no doubt that one or more of the guys there will be able to tell you exactly what you have!

Your Sprite is an early Mark II, "AN6" series car. This is the model that immediately followed the Bugeye Sprite. It is the counterpart of the Mark I MG Midget.

20,450 were produced from May 1961 to October 1962. It has (at least originally) the 948 cc A-series motor.

The chassis numbers for these cars ranged from 101 to 24731. Your car, chassis number 18036, was therefore produced about 3/4 of the way through the production life of the model. A reasonable wild guess for date of production would be May or June 1962.

You can obtain precise information on production date(s), original color and other details by going to the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust website and purchasing a "birth certificate" for your car (often called "production records trace"). The number they'll need is HAN6L18036.

By the way, the "H" just means Healey, and the "L" means Left Hand Drive. The "A" refers to the A-series motor, and the "N" means "Two-Seat Tourer."

Good luck and welcome to the BCF!

Thank you so much!

I am on the hunt for spare parts, and plan on doing a chrome-less rat-storation of my MKII Sprite. I haven't decided whether Bug-eye or Original restoration is the answer. I guess I will go with which parts I find!

Thank you.

Welcome, and good luck!
