Hello ['60 Morgan +4]

Hi everybody,

I just wanted to make a quick introduction on these forums. My name is Read and I'm working on getting my Morgan back on the road. I'm a graduate student so I don't have much time to work on cars except during the summer. I kept stumbling across these forums while googling stuff for my car so I figured I'd join. I've already found many threads quite helpful.

As far as the car goes it's a 1960 Morgan +4 4 seater that my grandfather picked up from the factory in 1959. Since then it was driven around in the 60's then garaged for decades. Recently I've been trying to get it back on the road. It's powered by a TR3 motorset with dual SU carbs and a moss box. As far as getting it roadworthy it has a few things that need addressing (besides Lucas electrics). This weekend I'm going to replace the tie rod ends and bent tie rod (the tie rod was bent after a tree jumped out infront of the car in my driveway). It does run hot if it's parked and I have upgraded the fan to a 6 blade one - I think there is a good deal of crud in the cooling system aswell since the drain plugs don't drip unless i poke something in them. Just got the radiator recored aswell. Hopefully the headgasket is alright (compression 150 on all 4). A local mechinic is going to come over in the next few days and help me fine tune the carbs. I'm crossing my fingers and hope I can get it purring soon.

Also during the summer I compete in some local autocrosses in my daily drive (a 1997 nissan 240sx)

I look forward to being part of these forums!

Anyways on to some pictures:

Beautiful car! I had the privilege to follow one of those beauties on a recent climb up a mountain for a picnic.
Seeing 4 people in that thing was SWEET!
Good luck on the project!

Welcome, Read!! That's an outstanding car. Your gran' should be honored. Glad to hear the tale.

Hi There Read,

"WOW"; Talk about a "BARN FIND"!!

Great looking car & wishing you a ton of fun with Her.

Regards, Russ

Well I've been working on it for the past few days and have made lots of progress.

Ended up rewiring a few lights and getting a new flasher unit and now all the gauges and lighting in the car works.
Threw on a Pertronix coil to replace the old one which would get burning hot if the engine ran for more than 2 minutes.
Got the carbs tuned just right so she is purring nice and smooth.
Put on new weatherstripping to replace all the old rotten stuff.
Flushed the cooling system a ton, but still want to get it flushed with more pressure than a garden hose to really blast that crud outta there.
Replaced the Tie Rod and tie rod ends, alignment is a lot better now.
It's been in the 90s and the car idles fine at normal operating temp.

All that's left to do is tighten up one of the front hubs because it's pretty loose and get an alignnment - then get it re-registered and inspected. Also there is a mega-exhaust leak at the manifold/downpipe that I'll have to get an exhaust shop to take care of, I don't want to mess with stripped studs and 50 year old rust.

She lives!

I also got around to finally putting a headliner in my Nissan. All those rattles are gone and I won't go crazy driving around anymore.

Good news! Glad you're progressing.

There used to be a true Morgan fan a bit north of ya, in the Tidewater VA area. Autocrossed 'em! John Sheally, photog for a local newspaper. No idea where he or his cars are now.
