Heater Valve Question

I believe that it is counter clockwise so that it comes upwards, the water pumps from the block to the heater box.

So assuming what I think you want to do, turn it clockise (lowest position) and you should be fine.

it operates just like your garden hose. CW to close.

nice analogy, didn't think of the spicket.

flows from the valve then to the core, then back through return hose.

Mine leaked, so I plumbed it to 'always on' ... hehe! It's still freezing when it's cold out, and it's not noticeably hotter with the top down.

There isn't much to them. Pretty easy to rebuild with an o-ring from your favorite parts store and a bit of gasket material. Maybe 1/16" garlock??? I think that is what I used. Now I can operate mine and it doesn't leak
