All summer long the heater in the Spitfire worked well, cooking our feet all the way to Santa Maria. Last night, the temps in the 50s, we were cold. The heater box was cool- not warm at all. The hose connecting the valve to the heater was cool, the hose from the heater, returning to the engine was hot. Could I have installed the valve improperly or confused the open and closed position of the valve?

When you adjust the heater knob do you see the valve open and close? If not, you might have a broken cable (the housing can break just behind the dashboard mount so that the cable does not exert any force on the valve) or the connection to the valve is not tight.

Disconnect the cable at the valve and open the valve all the way with your fingers. If you get heat, the problem is the cable or the cable hookup. If no heat, the problem is a blockage in the valve or in the line.
