heater panel with no heater

My BN7 does not have a heater. my question to the group is what should go were the heater control panel does. I currently have a panel for a heater but doesnt look good due to the empty holes in it. I still need a holder for the fresh air cable which is one of the purposes of the panel

any thought are appreciated

kevinr,are you going to install the heater? or are you going to "dummy" up the look of the panel? i noticed ya live in green bay,ah id put in the heater! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
 
Kevin, It is worth having a heater just for the sake of having defrosters. Your car Looks good from what we could see. I also have a bn7. Only option, a heater. BR1
How about showing a little more of the rest of the car?
 
I ordered a new choke cable and put the choke button into the empty space. It fits perfectly and looks exactly the same. The choke has a distinctive "C" marked on it so it looks like it's part of the heating (possibly "cool" air) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif. I know you purist will probably shake your heads now, but it's practical and I didn't need to drill a hole into my BN4 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif.

Seems like you have 4 choices. Install a heater, add fake knobs to the existing panel, fill non-operational holes with JB Weld or equiv. or make a new panel to have just the fresh air opening. The new panel could be fabricated from sheet metal or 1" thick piece of aluminum (needs to be thick at the center to pick up the existing mounting holes). A fifth option is to grind or cut off the existing temperature hump and glue a piece on top of the large opening left but the gluing needs to be very sound as the original piece will be structurally weak after the hump is gone.

Thank you to every one who replied with suggestions. it sounds as if there is no "correct" way to do it. one option we didnt consider is to remove the panel and mount the fresh air cable under dash. I will unbolt the panel this weekend a see how it looks.. If I dont like this I will install the components to make it look like it is a working piece. this will allow me to install a heater in the future if I find it necessary. Here is an additional picture. thank you again

Nice work Kevin. Looks good.I noticed on your interior picture there is a hole were you can access the starter solenoid. My car has that same feature. Is that hole to be covered with a rubber plug or something to keep the heat and fumes out of the cockpit? Bob
 
BR 1,if you have an open hole between the engine compartment and the cockpit it sure needs to be plugged up with something.A rubber grommet sounds about right.---Keoke
 
Kevin, one thing I did was that I also installed the cold air tube on the passenger side with the same tube that is used for the drivers' side. It fits perfectly and needs only an adaptor plate at the firewall. This helps in cooling the cockpit even further. regards Higgins
