Sorry to hear ur heaters stuffed like mine.

But if you want to drive your car in the meantime, you know u can bypass the heater...?

I've been driving without it hooked up for about 3 years now /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I dont even know what the heaters like in a B

Hey guys...
I finally got my #### together and went and picked up the heater core today.
Looks pretty shmick!

After being told that the core was of the same dimensions... went and put it back in the case.... YEAH RIGHT!!!!

I've modified the outter casing to make it fit. BUt my question is... with that decent sized hole in the case... is it a good idea to cover it up with a rubber insert or something?

also...
When im hooking back up the coolant lines to the heater... im guessing i should do so when the car is cold?

Will coolant spurt out everywhere when doing so?
 
Yes, definitely replace the core with the car cold. When hot the system is pressurized! You will definitley need to plug the hole you reamed in the cover. The idea is to get as much as as possible to pass throught the fins of the core. You should also consider putting weatherstripping long ways around the core to make air pass through rather than around the core. Since your core was in bad shape you should also consider replacing the heater valve on the head, it is most likely clogged. They are also prone to failure. The bad thing about them is that when they do fail, they drip hot coolant on your distributor which is a VERY BAD THING! lol! Good luck.

PS - Since you have the box out, make sure the felt on the lower flap is in place and good contition. I would also consider replacing the cable that attaches to it. It's next to impossible to replace when the box is in the car.
 
I agree with John. Definantly take the time to replace the cables now while you can still get to everything easily.

and yes, for safety sake, please do it when the engine is cool.

I just have to get the heater/air knobs screwed back on the controls coz the groove inside them has been rounded
