Heater box

As motivation: What I started with and what it looks like now.

Looks great Doc. My engine bay looks alot like your before picture, only in red. Great work.

Thanks, Ron.

Mg_Bizzle: The speedo cable is in JUST the right place to block view of the heater box left (short) edge, but it looks as if that side tab is missing on the box... There are three screws across the front of the box and one in each side. Have you undone the one on the blower side, UNDER the cage area? It's a bear to access (or even SEE), and that may be what's holding you up?

...just trying to suss why it won't release...

Thanks for the motivational pics and the extra info. Iv missed off the screw your describing (I think) so will check that out tomorrow...im not totally sure where you mean, but il have a good hunt around.

Thanks for your help yet again guys, hopefully it wont be so hot tomorrow (a rarity in the uk!) so work on the MG will be much easier.

Finally got it out today, seems I just needed to use a bit of force.

Iv also managed to get my grotty fuel tank off.

Here are some pics from a blog im making on another forum:

Old heaterbox

Dirty hole where there heater box was

Grotty fuel tank. You might just be able to see the rust holes in the bottom right hand corner.

Once again thank you everyone for your help /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Progress is a wonderful thing.

That tank is NASTY!

Heater box on the other hand is in better shape than what I started with. The core pro'lly needs a trip to a good radiator repair shop for a patch and pressure test.

Have the tank diped, and coated at a radiator shop then hit it with black rustolum. Mine was worse.

My old fuel tank had holes in the top big enough for you to put your finger in. I was wondering why when I filled it, I could smell gas, and see puddles /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Once the tank is cleaned out, it may show some holes, but new tanks are pretty cheap these days.

I am starting the long process of cleaning up my engine bay (I don't want to feel left out). I will make sure to get some pics of the before and after. Thanks for all the motivation to get something done.

Theres my new fuel tank ready to go on. Just got to do a bit of welding to the boot floor and battery holder before it goes on. Im also waiting on delivery for the fixing kit.

After my exams il be taking the core from my heater box to a raditor shop as you've suggested /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif
