Heater box / cooling system

Getting the heater box out, there are two ports for coolant. The top one goes to the back end of the cylinder head, can find a blanking plate for that, no problem.
The bottom goes to a tube junction on the hose that runs from the water pump to the left side of the bottom crossover tube.
I've checked the usual sources for a hose that doesn't have this junction, and can't find. I don't want to screw / bolt it closed because I'm not sure what the pressure will be like.
Q1. For those that have the heater box removed, what hose did you use and is it something I can get at my local parts store?
Q2. How much coolant should I subtract by not having the heater box and associated hoses?

Thanks! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just put a bolt in the hose opening and put a clamp on it. Will be fine, not a lot of pressure in the coolent lines.

barry,
why are you removing the heater box? if you lived near jack i could see it.

Fred, a heater in a summer car is as much use as a chocolate teapot. Too much salt on Illinois roads for winter driving. I'll keep it handy so I can put it in for shows etc..
Bob, thanks, that's perfect, that's wahat I'll do.

gotta point there ... i'm not so quick to do the same since i figure i might be driving in the chill of fall on a clear day. thanks

do not put a blanking plate on the motor. route your hose to the return and leave the valve open. this helps cool the rear section of the block and head ( better circulation )

And that is a good point, in fact a very good point. Circulate that coolent.

Thanks Taz, will keep valve in-situ and by-pass direct to pump. Thanks all.
Be busy on this when the girls go to bed...
