Tired of your plastic knobs rotating on the shaft and not controlling anything? I got fed up with replacing plastic rotary knobs and decided to remove the crappy little spring and retainer button and replace it with something more substantial. I used an angle grinder with a cutting disc to split and old screw driver bit to fill the gap so my heater knob would have something to hold on to. First I heated the bit to bright red and let it cool to make it more manageable, held it in a vise and cut it length wise, cleaned it up and cut it to fit the space once occupied by the spring. I ground mine to create a snug fit with the knob so no glue was needed...problem solved!
