I'M SURE THIS TOPIC HAS ALREADY COVERED AND I DON'T HAVE TO TELL YOU HOW HOT MY HEALEY GETS INSIDE, BUT EVERY YEAR NEW PRODUCTS ARE DEVOLOPED WITH NEW TECHNOLOGY. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW FROM YOU EXPERTS WHICH IS THE BEST HEAT SHIELD TO USE ON THE INTERIOR. THE CHOICES SEEM TO BE ENDLESS AND THEY ALL CLAIM TO BE THE BEST AND THE PRICES ARE SO VARIED. TAKE INTO ACCOUNT EASE OF INSTALLATION AND AVAILABILITY. ANY TIPS ON YOUR EXPERIENCE IN INSTALATION WOULD VERY MUCH APPRECIATED I ONLY WANT TO DO THIS ESSENTIAL PROJECT ONCE. Anyway, I have used a closed cell foam with aluminum backing product on a BN6 and very pleased with it. Apllied with spray on adhesive and easy to put on the inside of the tranny tunnel as well as the exterior, floors, bulkhead, etc. Pretty cheap and does a nice job. Go to - www.lobucrod.com - to read about it and cost, etc. I recently used Eastwood's new Thermocoustic heat shield product and also pleased with it. Very similar and supposedly better than dynamat. Cost $120+ for enough to do an entire Healey. Looks very professional when installed and quite easy to do as well. Used this on a 100M and first impressions are very good as my leg no longer melts when driving it !

I installed Dynamat Xtreme and Low-E insulation in place of jute. The Dynamat is a sound deadener and when properly installed will be water proof. The Low-E adds to heat reduction and does not absorb water like jute.
 
The heat shield products have been covered. Two other items that may help:

1 - Make sure ALL holes in the firewall are plugged. Nothing defeats heat shield material like having a direct path of hot air from the engine to the interior.

2 - Line the fresh air duct with heat shield as it passes through the engine compartment. I have a smaller duct inside the smaller one with 3/16" heat shield in between. It makes a big difference. Last week I was driving with an outside temperature of 97F and my feet were cooler than my neck.
 
Buy a Honda S2000. You can get a good used one for about $14,000. No heat comes through at all. It has a/c with a special setting for top-down driving. Plus it goes like stink and it is pretty much bullet proof. Save the Healey for those nice days in the 70s and low 80s.
 
+1 on the Thermotec stuff. That's what I used. It seems to work as good as the other similar stuff on the market, but way less expensive. It "made a difference", but certainly didn't "solve the problem"... but I suspect no material could do that.

As for saving the Healey for those 70s and low 80s days... well, that may be easy if you live somewhere like Boston... but for us guys roasting in Texas, if we waited for those picture perfect low 80's days to drive our Healey, we'd get to enjoy it about 2 days a year :smile:

Be sure that the under-floor heat shield (a rigid panel, spaced below the floorboard), is in place. It makes a HUGE difference.

Sorry, no pictures. That's one of the nice things about lining the fresh air duct - there's no visible difference.
