Heat Shield Question

The heat shield (intake manifold) on my BJ7 has two holes in the lower section. The forward hole is perhaps 3/4" round and has a rubber grommet placed into it. The rear hole is perhaps 1/4" round with no grommet.

What are these holes intended to do? Also...where are the carburator overflow tubes supposed to go to get them away from the exhaust system?

Thanks for your help!

LL,
A quote from A&M Guide. "On both the 29F & 29K engines the tubes from both float bowls extended down through a common grommet in the heat shield to a point roughly even with the bottom of the engine block."

I don't know what the back hole is for.

Thank you Dave!

That makes sense. I probably should have looked more closely at the restoration guide for that information. My first impression had been that the grommeted hole was for one hose, but couldn't figure out the second.

Thanks again,

Lance
