TR4/4A Heat shield for tranny cover

Would you recommend putting some of the aluminum faced heat shield material on the underside of a plastic transmission cover? Seems to be a good idea to me, but looking for advice from someone who's done it. Does it help reduce heat and noise, and does it last?

Depends on the space you have between the transmission and the cover
The airflow must not be blocked completely, also use oil resistant glue

I did it on the carpet side and it does help somewhat.

I put mine on the carpet side as well (although my trans cover is steel, not cardboard) and it made a big difference. Before, the tunnel would get so hot on long trips that I couldn't lay my leg against it. Now, even in ridiculously hot weather (over 100F), it just gets warm.

The stuff I used had felt mated to the foil, and I didn't want the felt to get soaked with oil (fire hazard).

PS That was over 10 years ago, and the insulation was still in good enough shape that I moved it from the wrecked TR3A to the current TR3 (rather than cutting new).

I did my TR 4s with Dynamat and put it inside the car. I did the rest of the firewall and floors as well. It sure cuts down on heat and noise. Now I can listen to the exhaust note rather than the road noise.
