Healey Z on Bring A Trailer

"Reliable Blasphemy" - Well, I guess they could have been a bit more negative with their title! :jester:

Good luck with the sale.

Hey Rick,

Thanks a bunch. I was wondering why I was getting calls all over the US this afternoon. The comments were pretty polarized, as to be expected, but love it or hate it, 108 people took the time to comment on it!

Ken

Ken,

You're most welcome. BaT comments aren't always for the thinned skin, but you get lots of exposure with the folks that are looking for our kind of car. I think your car is fairly priced and hope it moves quickly. I know you've been thinking of a Porsche. Have you looked at the 911SC's? They're still reasonable and are pretty much unbreakable.

Hey Rick,

I love the posts. Most of the comments reflect their opinion and pick up details that only a car guy can appreciate. Some of the comments are just factually incorrect, but in total I think a fair representation of the car.

I seem to be stuck in the 60's and I'm really drawn to the Porsches from that era. However, on the list is the thought of getting a driver and not another project; 911SC, NSX, M coupe.

I still don't have what I would consider serious interest in the car.

Ken

Hey Ken,
I didn't comment on BAT but think you did a very nice job on your Healey and sorry to see you leave, at least for now, the Healey brotherhood. I had a 1965 Porsche 356C and really enjoyed it but if you think Healey guys are critical about making mods to a Healey, just wait until you see what the 356 guys think about making changes to a 356 - sacrilege !!! Good luck on your quest and I'd really look at one of the M Coupes - a ball to drive.
Regards,
Mike

Mike,

Thanks for the comments. The journey is the reward for me on these old cars. I've learned a lot, and have a great appreciation for the Healey marque and will be ready to find something else to tinker on.

It looks like the Healey is sold to a car nut in Southern California that appreciates the car for what it is and will enjoy it for years to come. He is planning on coming up this weekend, so I'll know for sure then.

Rick, PM me your address if you will, I'd like to send you something.

Ken

Let me know if you stray down the path of ///M Coupes, as I almost always have one (or more...) in my garage. I'm kind of known for working on them and their topless brethren, which you'll discover if you do any amount of online research on the 1998 through 2002 model year cars. Bimmerforums is probably one of the best and most active gatherings: https://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=137

Good news from Healey Z:

"I received a dozen calls or emails of what I would consider serious inquiries. I received a PayPal deposit by noon of the day it appeared and it left to its new owner this morning, just two days later. I had a back up buyer if this one fell through.

Hmmm on to the next project! I'm thinking 60's Porsche."

Just curious. If you going to use a Z engine, why not use a later fuel injected engine?

Using a FI motor in a car not originally set up for it requires a lot of planning and work. You'll need oxygen sensors, fuel lines, modified gas tank, electronic control unit and appropriate wiring, etc. etc. This stuff not only adds complexity, it adds expense real quick. Take a look at HealeyPassion's site to get an idea what's involved: HealeyPassion EFI

Since you're probably getting the engine out of a wreck you could probable get the whole thing. Might be expensive, but then the whole point of an engine swap is performance. Only a gearhead would attempt it anyway.

Richard, isn't everyone on this forum a gearhead???... maybe just different levels of the affliction?

I'm told admitting the problem is the first step to recovery. Unfortunately, the second step is wanting to do something about it... which I don't :nonod:.

And, yes, going efi is not for the faint of heart... but I think, for some, worth the effort... me for one.

Cheers,
Steve

M coupe all the way, while a set of pistons is about the same as a Porsche (3K) you definalty won't need them w/ the BMW .
