From my experience, the earlier TRs are easier to own, work on/restore and more comfortable to drive than a Healey. The Healey has the edge in sex appeal, power, and ground clearance (ha).
These cars are great fun to own and very satisfying to work on because they are mechanically simple (right). And work on it you will. Compared to the maintenance-free appliances we mostly drive now, they can be demanding little beasts, but they turn heads and help you stay young....still the best chick magnet on 4 wheels, even if the chick is a grandma. Some of us are old enough to have experienced owning these cars when it was actually possible to buy one new or drive one off a used car lot for under $1,000. They were our daily drivers and we didn't think twice about parking overnight on a busy city street or driving in the rain and snow. Boy those were the daze...
