Hi Guys
I've been asked to produce a Scale Model of the Healey SR Climax that ran in, (I think) the 68 and 69 Le Mans race.
I really need some reference material, especially dimensions, so that I can complete the work.
Does anyone have any such reference material, photographs, web links that they could share with me?.....If you feed SR Climax into Google you get some very strange results... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It als appears that one of these cars was in Austrailia in 2002 ant the Austrailian Historic Motor Festival

"Among the special cars was Tom Barr Smithā€™s Healey SR2 Climax, which competed at LeMans in 1968 and ā€˜69 before being dismantled."

That's all I could come up with.

and scroll through all of the St Moritz pages there are 3 or 4 pictures of the car showing its gullwings (like 300SL) and raised rear engine cover.
There is even a picture of my 100-Six parked next to the car!!!

This actual car did not run at Le Mans, it is a recreation (a very very good one) and it uses several original spare parts that the team had left over, including the body tub and some other important bits.

Try contacting the Aussie Healey clubs Im sure they could give you Tom's contact details. I imagine he'd like to help you.
 
IIRC SR2 ran in 1968 as a closed car and was rebuilt as an open car for '69.
As DerekJ says, the SR2 that exists in Oz was built from a spare body tub and other genuine spares, with the missing parts being made new.
The Cov Climax engine was borrowed for use in SR2 and I think went back after the race, so the car now has a Rover (ex Buick) V8. Bill Emersons book has pics and info.

I think I have contact details for Tom, as he is a member of the AOHO, but the confidentially rules mean that I can't pass them on to you, but if you don't have any luck, I could forward an email to him (assuming he has an email address). Send me a pm (healey at dsl dot pipex cot com) if you don't have success elsewhere.

I have now received a new picture and a data sheet giving all essential dimensions from a Healey friend in the UK which I'm sure will enable me to construct a decent model of the car.

Patrick Quinn of Sydney, Australia, indicated that ... "The SR for sale is a reconstruction using some original parts. The real car was run in 1968 and 1969 and it was then modified into a roadster or open car for the 1970 event. That car still exists and has been owned by Robert Harrison here in Sydney, Australia since after the event in 1970. Back for the 1968 event two floor pans were built and one used to construct the original SR. It is the spare floor pan that was sold to Owen Swinnard and eventually bought to Australia. It was so badly corroded that it could only be used as a template to make another floor pan. Some of the original panels and other parts went into the reconstruction. However it is fair to say that Geoff Healey did have a UK registration for the proposed second car (therefore second floor pan) as there was serious consideration given to putting it into production. It is also very fair to say that the workmanship that has gone into the SR for sale is first rate and the car is drop dead gorgeous and I want it (dearly) but I'm afraid that I am not allowed to sell my home (or soul) to have it."
