Healey History

Help me understand a little bit of the history of Austin Healey. Would I be wrong (as I think I am) in assuming that they were owned by British Leyland, like Triumph and MG? I believe I read somewhere that healey was owned by British Motor Corp. Are BMC and BL the same company, or different?

Ok, thanks. That explains all my questions except one: It lists Austin Healey as being owned by BMC, but being dropped by Leyland. How can Leyland drop AH is they never bought it?

Webb,
Yeah - It's kind of confusing. The key phrase is "1968 British Leyland. This is everything mentioned so far" This means that BMC & a lot of others became BL in 1968.

BMC built the big Austin Healey from the beginning & a little later the Sprite. BMC dropped the big Healey in about 1966. BMC was merged with BL in 1968 & BL dropped the Sprite in 1971.
