I own a 1966 BJ8 which has a phase 1 front shroud(2 lights) ,does anyone know if I can buy Moss lower front shroud patch panel pt# 857-545 with the correct (4 lights)and install it on this phase 1 shroud. Thanks 4 the help , Jeff

Hi Jeff,

What makes you think you have a Phase 1 shroud and not an early Phase 2? The early P2s had a single light encased within a relatively flat plastic lens. The Phase 1 aslo had a single light under a glass behive lens. Have you checked your VIN to be sure you have a later Phase 2 as model year is not a good indicater?

All the best,
Ray (64BJ8P1)

Check that the under front fender wire harness supports the additional lamp.--Keoke

This was talked about a couple posts back.
A 1966, should have two lights.
Here's what I found out about when single became double lights.

March 1965
B.76138
C.BJ8/31336 (approx)
All cars now fitted with separate amber front/rear indicators, and rear reflectors on brackets to bumper.

Not the last word.
For example on the front cover of a very early Chatter magazine is a big Healey with altered front lights caused by the inability to obtain the correct panel during restoration. The car was red/white as I recall

Thanks to everyone ,I checked and my cars # is in the 37000 range which makes it a 1966,also the Heritage cert. says Sept 1966 build date.I looked under the car not thoroughly and only saw one set of wires per side( need to look better).Another strange thing this BJ8 is the 4 light rear shroud with 4 red lens.Still looking for an answer? Thank you to all and keep em comin!!! ps my car is ice blue met.

I agree with AUSMHLY in that twin lights appeared around March of 1965 and VIN 31336. However, as we all know, the year of registration that is usually mentioned may not be the year of manufacture. Also, it was not above the Healey manufacturing process to use any available part where needed. It seems Jeff’s VIN does validate that it is a later Phase 2.

Keoke also has a good point in suggesting Jeff make sure his car is wired for dual lights. If the car was in an accident early on, it is not unheard of for the repair to have been made with a more-available earlier model front shroud and short lighting harness up front.

Good luck,

Well jeffreys: for some reason someone has been playing around with your Healey. The two top lights on the rear shroud should be amber.

Check E Bay there is a NOS one on there now and they come up regularly------ Keoke
