Headlight switch - fried

I have some diagrams if your interested. Give me a buzz.

Tracy

Hello bighly,

Can you share them with the rest of us please as I'm sure there is someone out there just trying to work out what it is that everyone is talking about i.e interupting wires, high/low side of relay etc etc.

As has been said before a picture is worth a thousand words, especially for those not adept at explaining things too well.

Thanks and Best Regards,

bundyrum.

Hi Roger: It depends on how much safety you think you need> I will give you a Kiss circuit and you can add on as you see fit.
1] Blue wire from switch goes to high side of relay coil.
2] low side of coil goes to chassis ground.
3] 14 AWG Brown wire goes to hot side of starter solenoid.
4] other end of brown wire goes to switched pin on relay via a20 AMP fuse.
5] Make jumper to go from switched output power from the relay back to the junction of the original blue wire and the wiring harness connection.

Any Bosh 30 AMP relay will work, Sourcing other type relays just make sure they are rated for continuous operation---Keoke

Keoke, anyone,

I'm embarrass to say, I'm not following the above.
Would someone walk me through this again. Or a diagram showing how to install the relay in between.

Blue wire from the harness goes to (which number on the Grote relay) then I will add a new blue wire from (which number on the Grote relay) to the light switch number 8 (blue wire).

Red wire from the harness goes to (which number on the Grote relay) then I will add a red wire from (which number on the Grote relay) to the light switch number 7 (red wire).

Brown wire from the harness goes to (which number on the Grote relay) then I will add a new brown wire from (which number on the Grote relay) to the light switch number 4 (brown wire).

What wire to ground?
Add a jumper how?

This one relay will handle the headlights and the low beam?

Do I need to, or should I install another dimmer switch for the high beam? If so, how to do that.

Where do I put the fuses in line?

I'm really lost on this and I don't want to melt anymore switches or cause a fire.

Thank you,
Roger

5] Make jumper to go from switched output power from the relay [ PIN 87 ] back to the junction of the original blue wire and the wiring harness connection.

:savewave: There are no RED wires involved
Red wire from the harness goes to (which number on the Grote relay) then I will add a red wire from (which number on the Grote relay) to the light switch number 7 (red wire).

Brown wire from the harness goes to (which number on the Grote relay) then I will add a new brown wire from (which number on the Grote relay) to the light switch number 4 (brown wire).

What wire to ground? Make a new Black wire jumper up to route PIN #86 to GND
Add a jumper how?

This one relay will handle the headlights and the low beam? :yesnod:

Do need to, or should I install another dimmer switch for the high beam? :nonono: If so, how to do that.

Where do I put the fuses in line? ONE At the starter solenoid Fit aBuss fuse holder fitted with the proper sized ring connector.

I'm really lost on this and I don't want to melt anymore switches or cause a fire. :nonono: :D---Let us know how you get along--Keoke

Thank you,
Roger
