TR2/3/3A Headlight outer trim ring

Hi all, trying to install the outer trim rings to the headlights but having a tough time figuring out the accessibility of the set-screw (which I do not have yet if needed). Perhaps I am missing parts or not? I did not take it apart so I have no reference for install. I presume the set screw portion reside at the lower portion (6 o'clock position). I see how the ring snaps into place but then is a bit loose on the lower end. Does anyone have a picture of the set screw in place from the back side (presuming it must be installed prior to installing the ring)? If I am way off on the install process, please advise:smile:.

I did not think installing trim rings could get complicated, unless I am the one complicating it ;)

Wow, that was fast. It looks like I am missing the piece that attaches to the bottom of the trim ring. see attached with arrow. I can not find a name or p/n, do you have this? Or a close up image of it - I may have it in the box of parts I have. thx

Nutmeg, that is a good restoration blog, one I haven’t seen before. Gonna check it out for sure.

Do you know the author of this blog? I already like his style from just the first and only page I read.

The early tr3, the 1957& 56 used the screw on the bottom of the head light. The light on the early one sticks out far enough to have access for the screw, more frog eye. On 1958 some had screws at the bottom because they were probably left over, but the screw is very, very tight to get to because those light housing are different and are set back farther in the apron, less frog eye. Later 1959 and forward they did away with the screw and the ring snaps on. The snap on rings need the correct amount of clearance and the little ears on the housing to accept the ring. Sometimes the housing has to be a little lose and the gasket has to be correct. The early and later headlight gaskets are different

Great info. I think that the headlight ring gasket will resolve the issue I have with it being too loose. Once installed I think it will help keep the rings secure along with them snapping in. thx

I had to do a bit of filing on the snap in clip as it was too wide to clip into the fixed part. The tool makes getting it off a breeze.
