Headlight indicator - audible sound

but my Healey doesn't have a toggle switch.
How do you turn your lights on?

YES! What Johnny said. I feel his pain. Has anyone put a chime on their turn signals?

Hello Walter,

Yes, I did. You can pick up a buzzer at Radio shack that you can splice in.

I finally removed the trafficator, fixed the problem why it was not returning. After the fix, I removed the buzzer. It does get annoying after a while. Hence why it did work well though.

Roger....that.

Just wanted to let you all know that the JC Whitney buzzer works perfect and is very easy to install. Two wires, if you have blade connectors, you might need a piggyback blade connector. I also saw basically the same think at a NAPA store today.

Jerry, what two Healey wires did you spice into?
How does the JC Whitney buzzer activate and does it auto shut off?

I used three wires. Negative ground car.
1. wire to ground/negative.
2. wire to ignition.
3. wire to headlight toggle

When the car is running, flipping the toggle on or off, no chime sound.
When the car is off, if the toggle is on, the chime will sound for one minute, then auto shut off.

I'm happy to share what I've added to my Healey and how I did it. It's also good to know how others have done the same thing, where purchased and if theirs operates in the same way. Thanks for sharing Jerry.

Roger

Yours has more componets. This is simple. One wire to the light switch, one wire to the ignition switch. When the ignition is on, no sound. When the ignition is off and the lights are on, it buzzes. Since I have a BJ8, the switch is a toggle with blade connectors so very easy to install.

I may put one on the BN4 also.

Roger have you done the audible turn signal mod????.....that would be a great next project for you....since you are so creative I'm sure you could figure it out.

Cheers,
Steve

I guess if you drive during the day with your lights on this might be a problem, at night it is pretty obvious if you leave your lights on from the beams in front and the instrument lights, dim as they may be.

About the only time that is usually an issue, for me anyway, is when you might drive with lights on in the day in fog or rain, but we don't take our cars out as much in these conditions these days, at least most of us. Don't get me wrong I am as forgetful as the next guy, I now have 2-3 sets of the most common garage tools because I can't for the life of me keep track of the 1/2 inch socket when I am working on a car. But the lights shine at night even the Lucas versions.

My wifes stupid new Honda has an instrument panel that stays lit up all the time. Now that is confusing, I drive it at night with the lights off all the time when in well lit areas of town--mind sees instrument lights on and assumes head lights are on.

Allow me to humble myself.
Daylight, after exiting a tunnel. Get to my destination, forget they are on.

Early morning driving. Once at the destination(car show), full daylight now, forgot I turned them on.

I park the car, a pretty girl walks in front of me....
Oh I got a list of excuses.

The Honda story is funny. Thanks for sharing that. I did smile reading it.

Cheers,
Roger

We don't have any tunnels in flat Nebraska---But yes, getting up early to go to shows etc, and forgetting to turn off in the light, can happen, you guys probably have more pretty girls in California too, the cows don't distract me much.

Roger, (aka Buzz Lightyear) oh yes....but that beeps all the time. I was thinking of something that had a timer that beeped at you after xxx number of minutes assuming the turn was completed and the signals were left on.... like my truck does .

Cheers,
Steve
